Just under an hour from Bosnia’s capital, the city of Visoko buzzes with excitement after the 2025 opening of Starry Night Park. Inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic Starry Night painting, local entrepreneur and artist Halim Zukić offers a real-life, immersive experience.
Described by some as an “open-air” museum, Zukić has transformed 25 acres into a living homage to Van Gogh’s painting. Using over 130,000 lavender bushes, plants, and herbs to bring it to life, Zukić explains, “Construction machinery served as our brushes, and our colors were the plants. The land, of course, was the canvas.”
Zukić and his team spent six years transforming a natural landscape into a living piece of art. What makes matters more exciting? While the landscape mirrors Van Gogh’s famous painting, the full Starry Night Retreat covers 175 acres and offers a wide range of activities and programs, providing visitors with an unforgettable, multi-sensory experience.
